Music and Museum: Season Finale
The season finale of Music and Museum features musical guest Malek Jandali, the world-renowned Syrian American composer and pianist, who has been hailed by Fanfare Magazine as "a major new addition to the 21st century's symphonic literature." According to American Record Guide, Jandali's symphonic works have been described as "deeply enigmatic with voices and in tongues emerging from the composer's Syrian heritage that generously repay more reflective listening." Jandali is Charlotte’s first composer-in-residence, and this Music and Museum performance opens with the world premiere of a piece commissioned by Queens University of Charlotte.
In addition, the Bechtler Ensemble will be joined by local Composer and Associate Professor of Music at Queens University Zach Zubow; Assistant Professor of Composition/Theory at Winthrop University, Leonard Mark Lewis; Professor of Music Composition, Music Technology, Music Theory, Area Coordinator for Music Composition and Music Technology, and the Director of the Winthrop Computer Music Labs at Winthrop University, Ronald Keith Parks; and Composer, performer, and former Director of Music Theory, Music History, and Composition at Central Piedmont Community College, Craig Bove — all debuting world premieres written for the Bechtler Ensemble and supported by the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.
